The best ring styling tip out there is to master the art of stacking rings. This accessorizing trick checks all the boxes – it’s versatile, trendy, and lets you show off your ring collection. Whether you prefer dainty and delicate rings or bold and eye-catching designs, stacking rings allow you to showcase your unique style.

In this guide about stacking rings, we'll cover various ideas on how to stack rings and elevate your jewelry game.

The Essential Ring Stack Components

There are four different ring styles that are essential to any stack: statement rings, dainty rings, stacking rings, and midi rings. With just a few of each, you’ll have plenty of different stacking combinations to choose from!

Statement Rings

A statement ring can be anything from a thick band to a bold signet. These rings will be the focal point on your hand. Start here when building your stack, and select the rest of your rings to complement!

Dainty Rings

Dainty rings are delicate and minimalistic in design. They typically feature thin bands and subtle details, making them perfect for layering and adding a touch of elegance to your ring stack.

Stacking Rings

Stacking rings are simple bands. Often thin, these rings may be smooth or textured. Stacking rings are the building blocks of your stack, so you’ll want to have multiple.

Midi Rings

A midi ring is meant to be worn on the middle of your finger, between the knuckles. Midi rings can be a simple round band or have a different shape to them. They’re a great way to add an extra chic touch to your stack.

How to Stack Your Rings

Now that you know the components of a ring stack, let’s talk about how to combine them!

Tip 1: Vary weights and shapes.

When assembling your ring stack, it’s important to mix weights and textures. Choose different types of rings, as mentioned above, but also be sure to vary the band style and size. For example, wider, smooth bands like our Flat Band Ring and Thick Flat Band Ring look great stacked with thin, textured ones, like our Thin Flower Band Ring and Sparkle Stacking Ring. Try out different combinations and see what you like!

Tip 2: Aim for balance.

After selecting your variety of band styles, think about how you’re combining your rings across your fingers. An important consideration for your ring stack is balance – making sure your various visual components are evenly spread. For example, if you pick a statement ring like our Gold Dome Ring for your ring finger, go for one simple ring on your middle finger like our Twist Ring, then stack a couple bands on your ring finger, like our Simple Stacking Ring or Sparkle Stacking Ring.

Tip 3: Leave at least one finger bare.

One of the hardest parts of assembling a ring stack is knowing when to stop! Make sure you don’t overdo your stack by keeping at least one finger bare. Otherwise, the look can be too cluttered and the details of each ring will get lost. We suggest keeping either the pinky or thumb bare, but the decision is yours!

Tip 4: Mix and match metals.

You don’t have to stick to just one metal when building your ring stack! Combining two different metals is an easy way to create a chic look. This trick works especially well with simple bands where the finish is the star of the show. If you tend to stick to one metal, we encourage you to mix it up for your next stack.

Tip 5: Play with different styles.

Hand wearing three gold rings: Thick Flat Band Ring, Curved Ring, and Paperclip Chain Ring.

If your ring collection features a variety of aesthetic styles, go ahead and combine them! For instance, a contemporary, thick bands like our Thick Flat Band Ring looks so chic paired with a dainty gemstone ring like our Tiny Solitaire Ring.

Mix ornate, classic designs with sleek modern ones. Try throwing in some birthstone stacking rings or chain rings like our Paperclip Chain Ring or Curb Chain Ring. Contrasting styles can end up complementing each other in the perfect way. It’s your ring stack – have fun with it!

Tip 6: Make Your Wedding Ring the Centerpiece

Do you wear an engagement ring or wedding band, and aren’t sure how to make a ring stack work? It’s easier than you think! You can follow all of the same tips above. Make your engagement ring the center statement piece in your stack and just build around it. For example, if you have a solid wedding band in gold, you can tie in gold bands of varying weights on other fingers. You can show off your ring collection and enjoy some extra accessorizing while letting your ring finger be the star of the show!

You can also stack some of our bands with your engagement ring. Customer favorites include our Pavé Diamond Stacking Ring, Triple Pavé Diamond Ring, Flat Band Ring, and Thin Flower Band Ring. If you have a hands-on job or engage in activities where wearing your engagement ring is impractical or unsafe, you can also using one of these bands as a substitute for your engagement ring.

Final Thoughts on How to Stack Rings

Stacking rings is all about expressing your unique style and making a statement with your jewelry. Whether you opt for dainty and minimalistic designs or incorporate birthstone stacking rings, the possibilities are endless. These tips are just suggestions, though. At the end of the day, it's all about doing what feels right and showing off your personality. So, have a blast with it and enjoy the freedom to stack those rings however you please!
